Horns, Castles and Soup!

James and June love to either wave (if Jeremy’s walking) or do “the horn honking sign” (if he’s driving) every morning when he leaves for seminary.

Alice has become super interested in food over the last two weeks. She’ll watch your every bite if you eat within eye range.

I have zero talent for building castles or cathedrals from my imagination (unlike Jeremy, who can whip up Wells Cathedral from memory), so we have started finding pictures to replicate. Our first attempt:

James and I have started having Quiet Time when June and Alice are down for their naps. We read or knit or do some other sort of not-chatty activity. I love it, and James is getting used to it. 🙂

Came across this screen shot the other day and thought it was totally hilarious! Others didn’t quite agree.

Every year our church hosts a Soup Fest where contestants bring a crockpot full of a delicious soup and vie for the title of First Place. Attendees are given little sampler sized bowls and have a taste of all the entries (or most, if there are some that don’t appeal to you, like soups – ahem – that have mushrooms in their title, for instance). We had a wide range of entries this year, from Portobello Soup, Cheddar and Ale Soup, Loaded Baked Potato Soup, Lasagna Soup and Blueberry and Lemon Soup (tasted like a smoothie).

I happened to win First Place this year with my Chicken Peanut Soup entry!

From this picture it looks like the five of us were the only ones there – but there were lots of people, I promise! 🙂

I used this recipe from Baked Bree, if you’re interested in giving it a try. (I omitted the cilantro garnish, substituted olive oil for the sesame oil, found the chicken tasted best when cooked in the slow cooker, and must note that the lime juice, though it seems odd, is essential!)

Have a lovely week!

Life Lately

Somehow it is already the first of February, and today it is 5 degrees and sunny outside. I would just like to go on the record as saying that this is the most splendid winter we’ve yet enjoyed here in Hamilton! James and June are both outside as I’m typing here, cavorting around under a merry blue sky in the snow-free backyard.

We did have some snow the past couple weeks, though, enough for James to make a snowman and take out his snow racer for a few laps around the yard:

June happily frolicked out of doors with James:

James loved the snow so much he spent a long while using his little truck to transport snow from one location to another:

June hoping to catch a snowflake. This is one of my favourite photos of her!

Now the backyard is rather muddy – perfect for our budding artist who decided to ‘paint’ the side of our shed, haha! Can we call that shabby chic? Probably just shabby!
Feb 2016-13

With Jeremy back in school for his final semester, things have gotten back into a regular morning routine: Jeremy leaves for school, the kids and I finish breakfast, Alice has a nap, we do Tea Time and James’s lesson for the day, the kids play for a while and then we have lunch and Jeremy’s home again. I’m really enjoying the rhythm of our days lately!

Alice turned six months old two weeks ago! Here are photos of all three of our kids around this age, followed by some more of our smiley little Alice:

Alice loves it when Jeremy plays the piano or guitar for her, and she’s just as grabby and intrigued as the other children were at this age. 🙂

The kids got the game Bird Bingo from Opa and Oma for Christmas, and we’ve been playing many rounds of it with James lately. I highly recommend it! It’s a beautifully made game and James is learning the names of many birds. 🙂

June quite enjoys a round or two of Connect Four. 🙂

June’s been preparing many tasty dishes for us in her play kitchen lately:

And both James and June love tidying up Alice’s pack’n’play! They regularly beg me if they may have the privilege of cleaning it with a wet wipe or two. And I’m usually happy to oblige. 😉

That’s all for today! Have a lovely week. 🙂
