Baby Name Consultation

Jeremy and I have been giving a lot of thought as to what to name our little one whose entrance into the world is expected in fewer than five weeks.

Before we became Catholic, we simply chose names we liked. We chose James because it was classy and straightforward. We named June after June Carter Cash, a woman known for prayer and hospitality – plus, my birthday happens to be in June, so that’s a nice little connection, too. And Alice is a sweet and feminine name, and our little girl happens to fit her name absolutely perfectly.

Since becoming Catholic, our thoughts on naming have changed, and we’d love to name our baby after a hero of the faith. It turns out there’s a fascinating website called Sancta Nomina (“holy names”) dedicated to Catholic naming. Kate offers baby name consultations where you tell her your naming criteria and she gives you suggestions on names for your little one. So we had one done! Click here to see what suggestions Kate had for us! 🙂

Choosing a name is so hard! I dont know why, but I feel so certain you’re having a girl it felt strange to me to read boy name suggestions! We shall see I guess 😉

That’s so interesting, Tanya! I’m so sure this baby is a girl, too! So sure that when I bought newborn clothes the other day, I only bought girl clothes. The poor child with be very under-dressed if he happens to be a boy. 🙂 And the baby’s journal is quite girly, too…

I keep seeing links for that site. We aren’t Catholic but are on the lookout for a name for baby #4 and it’s getting harder with each kid so I need all the ideas I can get. Our problem right now is finding a name we BOTH like, which I guess is pretty important. But God will provide and we do until August!

I read the post and then had to come back. I love your three names and think we must have a similar style. Alice would be my top pick for the next baby (with Beatrice running a close second) if its a girl but dh isn’t a fan. I also love Matthias which we had one our short list for the last baby (that was a girl) but now he says he isn’t sure about it. Arg! We have a Lucy (with a last name starting with L) and a Norah so of course, I love those suggestions too.

Oh, interesting! I love meeting other people with similar naming styles. I love the name Lucy (especially since reading The Chronicles of Narnia to our son!), and Norah is very sweet, too. Alice and Beatrice both fit that sweet and feminine niche, too! It can be so hard to find names that both you and your spouse like, hey? Our usual thing is for me to come up with a list of twenty-five names I like, and then for my husband to go through the list and eliminate pretty much all of them, lol!
